Survivor England: Landing and Lunch

 Posted by Picasa

This picture was taken as we flew over Ireland. You can see the land and the ocean through the clouds. This was shortly before landing in England at the London Heathrow airport.

I made it through customs and found my luggage. Alex and Adrienne were in the airport. We stopped at "services" which is like a fancy rest area. We picked up some triangle sandwiches and I was introduced to British crisps.

{*British language lesson #1 - If you ask for "chips" (as in fish and chips), you get french fries. If you want chips, you need to ask for "crisps."}

Okay, back to lunch. These crisps are not your average ripple chips. Oh, no. They come in flavors like "Roasted Chicken with Rosemary and Thyme" (my pick), "Spare Rib Wontons," "Peppered Steak" and other mouthwatering delights.

I have no idea how many calories are in these suckers because everything is in metric with nutrition facts in Joules or kilocalories and I don't remember how to convert them to normal calories. I'm working under the assumption that anything you eat on vacation doesn't count.

The other interesting thing about these crisps is that they are "suitable for coeliacs." I had no idea what that word meant so I looked it up. It's not a British word - it refers to someone who has an allergy to wheat. Keep that in mind for your crossword puzzles, Dad.

Comments:
For the metrically impaired:

1 Joule = 0.239 calories
1 kilocalorie = 1000 calories
